Your Right to a Good Faith Estimate
You have the right to know how much your care will cost before you begin.
Under the law, healthcare providers are required to give a Good Faith Estimate (GFE) to patients who don’t have insurance or are choosing not to use it.
Here’s what you need to know:
- A Good Faith Estimate will include the total expected cost of any non-emergency services, including psychotherapy.
- Your provider must give you the estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your appointment or service.
- You can also request a GFE at any time before scheduling services.
If you receive a bill that is $400 or more above your Good Faith Estimate, you have the right to dispute it. Be sure to save a copy of your GFE for your records.
